Jenkins departed this life on June 18th, 1893, at 4 p. m. The writer has known deceased for a number of years He was a student at the University of Alabama when the war broke out between the states. At the call of his country he enlisted as a Confederate soldier. Some time by him was spent in drilling the volunteers for the conflicts of battle an art in which he had been carefully trained. After the war he engaged in the business of teaching school. Many years ago he came from his lovely valley home in Talladega County and became a citizen of Clay. Several years ago. He won the heart and hand of Miss Jensie Steed of Idaho, Ala. By this union there are two lovely children, a daughter and a son. Many young men and ladies have had careful training in the school room by this brilliant, minded man. His life work here will live after him. For some years he has been a consistent member of the M. E Church South. He expressed a willingness to meet his maker. For some time he had expected death. He was laid to rest on Saturday, June 17th, 1893, at Sardis church, Clay County, the funeral services being conducted by Rev. R. A. Speer...... A.
