Reports of the shooting are conflicting. Hallman claims that Jones came to his home and after using quite a bit of abusive language refused to leave. He says a continued argument led up to the shooting. Jones made a statement before officers, in the presence of witnesses, early Wednesday morning, in which he asserted that he was shot without provocation, and that earlier in the night he had left some groceries at Hallman's home and gone up the road a short distance. When he returned for his packages, he says Hallman began abusing him and later fired at him from a shotgun, the load taking effect in the right arm just above the elbow. Doctors took off the injured arm Sunday, but gangrene set in, which caused his death about four o'clock this morning. Hallman was first arrested on a warrant charging assault with intent to murder but was released on bond. As Jones condition grew worse, he was again placed in jail without bond, pending the outcome of the wound, and this morning a murder charge was docketed against him. Jones was about 30 years of age and is survived by his wife and two children. Funeral services will be held at Lystra church Friday morning at 10 o'clock.
