Ashland Progress
The death angel quietly visited the home of Mr. J, W. Jones at Erin last Friday 
night and claimed the spirit of his brother Mr. P. A Jones, who for a number of 
years has resided in his home. Mr. Jones suffered a broken ankle last August for 
a time he was unable to be out: At the time of his death, he appeared to' be in 
fairly good health for his age. He went about his business all day Friday, ate a 
hearty supper and went to bed at his usual time. Saturday morning Mr. and Mrs. 
Jones prepared breakfast before calling him. Mr. Jones called, but he failed to 
answer. Upon, entering the room he found him dead. We feel their loss was 
heaven's gain. He was a Christian man and lived daily what he professed. He was 
a member of Friendship Baptist church. He will be greatly missed in his church, 
community and his home. He was loved by all who knew him.  Mr. Jones was born 
Oct 25, 1866, was married to Miss Mattie Hobbs Dec. 2, 1885. To this union was 
born one little girl Lelia Idora. She died at the age of 7 years. Mrs. Jones 
preceded him to the grave 14 years. She died Feb. 24, 1924. He leaves to mourn 
his going one brother, J. W. Jones, one sister, Mrs. Mary Grogan, a host of 
relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. Edie 
of Lineville, assisted by Rev. J. E. Franks of Ashland, at Sardis Baptist church 
Sunday afternoon and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery. Pallbearers 
were Jack Grogan, Dennis Grogan, Henry Hobbs, Marshal Hobbs, Howard Stockdale 
and Ernest Watts.
