Ashland Progress
J. W. Jones, lifelong resident of Clay County, passed away at the home in 
Clairmont Springs Saturday August 27 after several weeks' illness. He was 79 
years old. His funeral was held at Sardis Methodist Church Sunday afternoon where 
he was steward over forty years. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery, Judge 
Nolen, Pastor Brown and Huey Watts officiated with Blair in charge. Much tribute 
was paid him as a good Christian and Companion. Pallbearers were Henry and 
Marshall Hobbs, Clyde and William Wainwright, Birmingham, W. J. Jones and Clyde 
Jones of Lineville, all nephews of the deceased. Brother Jones will be greatly 
missed. He was the last member of his father's family and is survived by his 
wife, Mrs. Saida Hobbs Jones. They had no children.
