Ashland Progress
An aged man shot and killed himself near here just before noon last Friday. John 
W. Jones, 65 years old, of Ashland, Rt. 1, was fatally wounded when he shot 
himself in the head with a shotgun. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon 
at Bethel church near Delta with Rev. Grady Birchfield officiating and White 
Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were Dixon Crawford, Leon Crawford, Troy 
Smith, Grady Mulkey, Clarence Cotton and Cress Smith. Surviving Mr. Jones are the 
wife Mrs. Fannie L. Jones, five daughters, Mrs. Effie Mullally, Mrs. George 
Barnes, Mrs. O. W. Cotton, Mrs. E. W. Liggon and Mrs. Louise Taylor; five sons, 
Buster, Arthur, Eugene, E. W. and C. J. Jones.
