Roanoke Leader
Mr. R. B. Kilgore, 76, a prominent citizen of Wadley for 40 years, or since the 
beginning of Wadley, passed away in a Roanoke hospital Monday evening at 9 
o'clock. He had been in the hospital for the past ten days. Mr. Kilgore had been 
active in the mercantile business most of the time, retiring a few years ago 
when his health gave down on him. He was an active member of the Masonic order 
for years and a member of the Baptist Church since the age of 18. Survivors 
include his wife, Mrs. Lizzie Gay Kilgore; two daughters, Mrs. Dwight Beougher 
of Lima, Ohio, and Mrs. Gladys Swafford of Ragland; two sons, Wilton of Atlanta 
and Eugene of Bynum; four grand-daughters and four grandsons; two sisters, Mrs. 
Anna Tidwell Nix and Mrs. Lillian Ventrice; one brother, Arthur Kilgore; and a 
host of friends. Funeral services were held at the Wadley Baptist Church this 
Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. The Rev. W. W. Lankford of Wedowee 
officiated, assisted by the local pastors, the Rev. A.A. Houghton, the Rev. Mr. 
DeLoach, the Rev. Jack Jones, the Rev. Fred Gore, and the Rev. Edd Robertson. 
Burial was in the Motley cemetery, with Quattlebaum's Funeral Home in charge. 
Active pallbearers included R. Harris, W. Amos Cotney, J. V. Perry Bert Prater, 
Dwight Hall, Hugh Radney, and Hurley Pearson. Honorary pallbearers included 
Milton Simpson, Osborne J. Harris, Mitchell Handley Guy Hudson, John T. Gibson, 
Frank Bishop, C. J. Motley, W. C. Edge, C.A. Weldon, M. M. Pearson, and Joe Cash
