Ashland Progress
The Death Angel visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Baker in the Mellow 
Valley community Saturday morning, November 15th, and called from there her 
mother, Mrs. J. H. Leftwich. She was 85 years old lacking a few days.
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Leftwich were married November 23, 1875. He preceded his wife 
to the grave 24 years. Surviving Mrs. Leftwich are three sons, Lycurgus, of 
Nashville, Tenn., Lorenzo, of Mellow Valley, and Lewis of Dallas, Texas; two 
daughters, Mrs. H. O. Baker of Mellow Valley, and Mrs. J.D. Padgett of Roanoke. 
Mrs. Leftwich was a devoted companion and an affectionate mother She loved her 
children and grandchildren. Their joy was her joy, and their sorrow was her 
sorrow. Not only did she love her children, she loved her neighbors and their 
children. The greatest of all her love was the love for God and the church, she 
has been an active member of the. Baptist church for 70 years, Mrs. Leftwich was 
a Martha in Service, a Mary in Faith, and a Hannah in Sacrifice, she served, she 
believed, she sacrifices for the welfare of man and or the promotion of the 
Kingdom of God. She will be missed by her many friends and loved ones. The 
passing of Mrs. Leftwich is a loss to the Mellow Valley community and to the 
County Line church, but may their loss be Heaven's gain. Pallbearers were Baron 
Leftwich, Rodney Leftwich, Loomis Leftwich, Willard Morris, Howard Rowe and 
Tollie Green. Her Pastor, REV. H. T. TAPLEY.
