Bence is said to have surrendered to the officers, both are men of families. Alexander City Outlook: News reached Alexander City Monday morning of the killing of Jim Lovelady by Hollis Bence both of whom lived near Goldville in the northeastern part of the county, the tragedy occurred at the home of Mrs. Bence, mother of the man who is alleged to have killed Lovelady. Reports reaching this place are somewhat conflicting, but as near as can be learned, it seems that Bence and Lovelady, who are brother-in-law, were visiting at the home of the senior Mrs. Bence, and that late Sunday afternoon the trouble arose over what first appeared as a play between Lovelady and his wife. According to this testimony, it is stated-that Lovelady, and his wife were playing and that a child in the room became frightened and began to cry, when Bence called on Lovelady to stop. From this one word led to another until Bence attacked Lovelady with his knife inflicting such serious wounds that Lovelady died in just a few minutes. Bence immediately left for Dadeville, where he surrendered to the officers. The killing was investigated Monday morning by the officers. It may be that an entirely different version of the affair will be shown later, but this is to be the version brought to the city by persons coming to the city for the casket for the dead man. The affair is generally regretted by the friends of the families, which were connected. Both men are married and have children, which makes the affair all the more to be regretted.
