Manning, the mother of Dr J.T. and W M Manning, died on Dec 21, 1907, and her remains were interred in the family lot at Wesobulga on Dec 22nd. Notwithstanding the great in---c-y of the weather a host of friends attended the funeral, which was conducted by her pastor, Rev J.H. Vann of the M .E. Church South. At the time of her death Mrs. Manning was one of the oldest and most respected women of this community. She was born in Coweta County, Ga on Aug 27, 1830, and was married to J.T. Manning Sr on Jan 16, 1851. She was a woman of remarkable sense, energy and judgment. One incident in her life represents her character. During the civil war when it was difficult for the majority of the women of the Southland to make ends meet, Mrs. Manning by her great energy and economy made and saved a goodly sum of money which she converted into gold. When her husband returned home, after four years of service to his country as a lieutenant in the Confederate army, she presented him this gold to start life anew. She was closely related to the illustrious Lee family of Va., and a woman of great strength of character and extraordinary mental caliber. She was a good woman and in her death this section lost one of its pioneer women. Additional Comments: Daughter of Wm Weather & Rachel Lee?
