Ashland Progress
Funeral services for George H. Matthews of Fayetteville, N.C. were held at 
Providence Church Wednesday of last week. Rev. C.B. Martin and Judge W. B. Nolen 
conducted with White Funeral Home directing Mr. Matthews was 58 years old at the 
time of his death. He was born in Clay County and lived here fer a good many 
years. Surviving are the mother, Mrs. Ola Matthews; three sons, George H. 
Matthews and C. T. Matthews of Jacksonville, and Frank Matthews of Greensboro, 
N.C. six sisters, Mrs. E. M. Barrett of Cragford, Mrs. George Chandler of 
Goodwater Route One, Mrs. J. Machen of Sylacauga, Mrs. Etheridge Harris of 
Clearwater, Mrs. Pauline McConnell of Sylacauga and Miss Bessie Gay Matthews. 
Pallbearers were Joe M. Wood, Hiram McMath, Russell Moon, D. V. Childers, J. 
Mann and Jesse Hodnett.
