Z. Alexander. Mr. Mattox had been quite ill for several weeks with on acute to attack of pneumonia. His condition had been considered serious for several days. The end came quietly and peacefully Saturday at noon. Mr. Mattox was a young man of many good traits of character. He was born in this county near Gibsonville twenty-five years ago. Most of his life he spent there with his mother. As a boy he was quiet and studious. He was ever gentle and obedient to his mother and family. When he reached maturity, he enlisted in the U S Army in the hospital service and was located at San Francisco Cal. During his stay in the army Mr. Mattox was several times promoted and his salary raised. He was honorably discharged on the 7th of last January and came home immediately. He then bought a third interest in the Ashland Drug Co and had just settled down for a business career. About four weeks ago he was taken desperately sick, and nothing seemed to stay the ravages of the disease. As a son, as a soldier, as a businessman. Mr. Mattox was attentive to every duty and courteous and gentle to all. About five years ago Mr. Mattox professed faith in Christ and joined Mt Moriah Methodist church, He remained as a steadfast and devoted member of this church and was a faithful Christian. Cut down in the very prime of his manhood, his death to us is indeed sad; but our loss is his train. We commend his loved ones to the great Creator. The burial service occurred. from Sardis church near Gibsonville, and his body was laid to rest in the cemetery nearby.
