E. Mattox Ends Life's Pilgrimage -- Mrs. M. E. Mattox died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. Z. Alexander at an early hour Monday morning after a long illness. Her remains were carried to the Gibsonville community and buried in the Sardis cemetery beside the tomb of her husband and a number of her children. Revs. J. H. Williams, Frank J. Fleming, and S. C. Ray took part in the funeral service. Mrs. Mattox was 73 years of age and was the mother of ten children, only three of whom survive her. They are J. H. Mattox, Mrs. J. D. Jordan, and Mrs. W. Z. Alexander, all of Ashland. Her husband died in 1893. Mrs. Mattox belong to an excellent family and was highly esteemed for her many Christian graces. She had been making her home in Ashland for several years and had many friends here.
