Ashland Progress
Last rites for Mrs. Mary Ellen McCain of Ashland R 1, were held at Mt. Moriah 
Church at 11 o'clock on July 10th, conducted by Rev. Elmon Mattox and Elder H. 
H. Goodman. Interment was in Mt. Arratt Cemetery. Blair in charge. Pallbearers 
were; Clyde Smith, Alvin Crawford, Arthur McCain, Willard McCain, Floyd McCain. 
Mrs. McCain passed away in Clay County Hospital on the morning of July 9th, 
following several years of declining health. She had reached the age of 88 
years. Survivors include her husband, Mr. John McCain; three sons; Owen, 
Cragford, Rt 1; Seeb and William, Ashland, Rt. 1 Four daughters, Mrs. Ethel 
Queen, Mrs. Myrtle Smith and Mrs. Lois Strickland, Alexander City; Mrs. Pearl 
Gortney, Ashland, Rt. 1. Other survivors are 79 grandchildren, 89 great 
grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
