From an investigation of the affair, as reported here, it seems that it occurred about as follows: Mr. McClellan and Mr. Ace Tate were out hunting with gun and dogs untrained young dogs. The dogs appeared to scent something and soon a squirrel was seen to run partly up a hollow tree and hide. Mr. McClellan set his gun down against another tree, got a pole and began an effort to oust the squirrel which soon came down and spurred away. Starting to follow it with the dogs, he (McClellan) told Mr. Tate to bring on his gun and when he turned to pick up the gun, an automatic, it was in some way accidentally discharged, the load striking Mr. McClellan in the side and killing him instantly. The two men were related and close friends. Mr. Tate is greatly grieved and shocked over the sad affair, as are all the family and relatives of the unfortunate victim. Funeral services for Mr. McClellan will be held today and the interment will be in Mineral Springs cemetery. He leaves a widow and five children.
