Services for Verner P. McVey, 80, of Lineville, are today at 2 p.m. at Benefield 
Funeral Home of Lineville with Revs. Thompson Pitts and Lawrence Pate 
officiating. Masonic graveside services will follow in Bellview Baptist Church 
Cemetery. The family will receive friends until the time of services. Mr. McVey 
died Friday at Lineville Nursing Facility. Survivors include his wife, Annie Lee 
McVey of Ashland; three sons, Herman McVey of Lineville, Edward K. McVey of Pell 
City and Douglas Eugene McVey of Florida; a sister, Pearl Laurent of Newnan, 
Ga.; a brother, Woody McVey of Lineville; five grandchildren and six great-
grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Alfred Carden, Clifton Carden, Dwight McVey, 
Roger McVey, Howard Spurlin and Mike Spurlin. Mr. McVey, a native and lifelong 
resident of Clay County and was a member of Lineville Masonic Lodge 219 F&AM. He 
was a member and deacon of Bellview Baptist Church.
