F. Messer Dead Mr. James F. Messer died at his home in this place on last Wednesday at 8 o'clock a.m. His death was not unexpected to his family and nearest friends as he had been in feeble health for several months. In his death our town loses a model citizen. During his residence of sixteen years at Ashland, his influence has invariably been exerted in the interest of good morals and for the promotion of every enterprise which tended to exalt and elevate the tone of our citizenship. He was happily endowed with a mild and gentle temper, a most amiable and genial disposition, and carried sunshine and cheer where ever he went. His words and deeds were so thoughtful and guarded as never to give offense to any man and it can be truthfully said of him that he had no enemy. Although a man of limited means, he was a liberal contributor to public enterprises, and never refused to aid in works of charity. In his home is where his splendid traits of character shined most brilliantly. He was a devoted husband, a kind and an affectionate father and it was pleasant to visit his home and observe the happiness and unity of spirit that prevailed in family. Mr Messer was a member of the Methodist church and died in the triump of the Christian faith. Those who knew him best, appreciated him most, and by all such he will be sadly missed. We tender the bereaved family our heart felt sympathy.
