J. Miller, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. L. Green at Mellow Valley, Thursday, May 8 at the age of 83 years. Since the death of her husband five years ago she had been in failing health and for several months had been very feeble. Funeral services were held at County Line church Friday afternoon, being conducted by Rev. S.J. Ingram and Rev. Layton. Mrs. Miller was the mother of a large family of children of which the following survive her: Mrs. J.M. Jordan, Mrs. J.L. Green, Mrs. Jesse Robinson (sic), and Mrs. John Fargason of Mellow Valley; Mrs. J. T. Liles and J. B. Miller of Birmingham; Mrs. Zema Leath of Boaz and John Miller of Mart, Texas. Additional Comments: Nancy Dean (9/11/1840-5/8/1924) married John J. "Kern" Miller (10/15/1842- 7/17/1917?). Kern enlisted in the Confederate Army, 14th AL Regiment, Company K, at Auburn in August, 1861. He was wounded at Salem Church, VA and honorably discharged May, 1864. Kern and Nancy reared a large family at Mellow Valley where Kern farmed and operated a store. Kern and Nancy are buried at County Line Baptist Cemetery. Children of Kern and Nancy Dean Miller were: Laura (5/29/1861-2/28/1940) m. James Monroe Jordan; Ida (5/26/1865-6/29/1923) m. Dr. Monroe Scarbrough; Jessie (12/21/1868-7/29/1945) m. Harvey Robertson; Lilla m. Jim Liles; Nonnie (4/14/1873-6/28/1952) m. Jesse Green; James B. (12/8/1873-6/14/1924) m. Viola Wood; Johnny m. Claude Pearson; Zema (5/1876-6/1976) m.(unknown) Leath; and Daisy (4/4/1881-10/6/1961) m. John Fargason.
