Lineville Headlight
News came that Curtis Hurst shot and fatally wounded Ike Mitchell, colored, at 
Pyriton last Sunday evening. The negro was reported dead Wednesday from wounds.  
It is alleged that Hurst and a Davis boy went to the Negros's home about night 
and called him out to give him a drink of whiskey, the negro refused and turned 
to go back into the house when he was shot in the back. The only provocation that 
is thought to have led to the killing is that the negro insulted a white woman a 
few weeks previous this, we have heard but little and eant substantiate. The 
negro is said to be in good circumstances and owned his home at Pyriton. The 
assailants are in Jail at Ashland.
