The same accident sent his three brothers to a hospital, one listed critically. In the Clay County mishap, according to State Trooper Jack Whatley, the Mitchell child had accompanied his brothers, Sparkie, 17, and Terrel, 14, to Ashland for a haircut. As they returned home, their vehicle and one driven by another brother, Earl, 19, headed toward Ashland collided on a small rise on the Watts-Mill Road, only a few, yards from the boy's home. The three surviving brothers were taken to Clay County Hospital where they were admitted. Terrel was later transferred to Birmingham due to his critical condition.
