Mrs. Lena Jane Mitchell, 79, died at Clay County hospital Saturday night, March 
27, following several days illness. Mrs. Mitchell was the daughter of the late 
Mr. and Mrs. Butler Carter, of Delta, where she was born and reared, was married 
to Tom Alexander who passed away approximately 30 years. Mrs. Mitchell then 
moved to Texas where she was married to Mr. Mitchell. After his death 
approximately 15 years ago, she returned to Delta, where she made her home. 
Funeral services were held at 11 o'clock Sunday at Delta Baptist Church with the 
Rev. B. W. Mathews and Rev. John Lovvorn officiating, burial was in the 
adjoining cemetery. Jones in charge. Mrs. Mitchell was a devout Chistian having 
joined the Baptist Church in her early childhood. Pallbearers were her nephews, 
sons of Cleveland Carter, Munford, her only brother. Also she is survived by 
three sisters, Mrs. C. D. Shaddix, Delta, Mrs. R. C. Miller, Norman, and Mrs. 
Willis King, Comanchee, Texas.
