Ashland Progress
Funeral rites for Mr. William Thomas Nichols of Ashland Rt. l, were held at Mt. 
Zion Church at 2 o'clock p.m. on Aug. 31st, conducted by Rev. Elmer Wheeles and 
Rev. C. W. Giddens. Interment was in Mt. Arat Cemetery with Blair Funeral Home 
directing. Pallbearers were Jack Browning, Walter Tillerson, Merriit Strickland, 
James McVey, Jasper Robertson, Slaughter Robertson. Mr. Nichols passed away in 
Clay County Hospital on Aug. 29th at the age of 70. Survivors include one 
stepdaughter, Lucile Crawford; one son, I. Z. Nichols; one grandchild, Charles 
Nichols, Bakerfield, Calif; one brother, Sherman Nichols; one sister, Mrs. Ora 
Robertson; stepmother, Mrs. R. L. Paschal, Fairfax; five half-sisters, Mrs. 
Fannie Daniel, Fairfax; Mrs. Lizzie Pittman, Lanett; Mrs. Lavada Daniel, 
Fairfax; Mrs. Velma Cautter Riverview; Mrs. Lena Planton, Houston, Tex.; one 
half-brother William Nichols, Lamont, Calif, and a number of nieces and nephews.
