Services for Mrs. Virene Padgett, 84, of Ashland will be today at 2 p.m. at Mt. 
Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard East and the Rev. Malcomb Robertson 
officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Benefield Funeral Home 
of Ashland is in charge. Mrs. Padgett died Friday at Clay County Hospital. 
Survivors include her husband, Willis Padgett of Ashland; and a number of nieces 
and nephews. Pallbearers will be Huey Powell, Phil Padgett, Steadman Browning, 
Billy Carr, Gene Hodnett and Don Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons 
of Mt. Zion Baptist church. Mrs. Padgett was a lifelong resident of Clay County 
and attended Jacksonville State University. She was a retired teacher with the 
Clay County School System and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
