Services for James Willis Padgett, 84, of Ashland were today at Mount Zion 
Baptist Church, Ashland, with Revs. Richard East and Malcolm Robinson 
officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of 
Ashland in charge. Mr. Padgett died Wednesday at Lineville Nursing Facility. 
Survivors include three sisters, Alva Powell of Ashland, Mary Wilson of Dadeville 
and Martha Walker of Alexander City; and two brothers, Elbert Padgett of 
Alexander City and Alton Padgett of Ashland. Pallbearers were nephews. Mr. 
Padgett was a lifelong Clay County resident and a member of Mount Zion Baptist 
Church.
