Fort Payne Journal 
Mrs. Lovie Jane Palmer Newell, age 81, passed away early Friday morning at her 
home on Route 2, Henagar, following a lingering illness. A native of Georgia, she 
moved to Alabama when a young and been living in DeKalb County the past six 
months. She was a member of the Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Clay 
County. She is survived by three sons, Troy Newell and D. G. Newell, both of Rt. 
Henagar; Bowman Newell, Anniston; four daughters, Mrs. Ovie Lee Sprayberry, Rt. 
2, Delta, Mrs. Elvirian Smith, Rt. 2, Wedowee, Mrs. Rosie Annie Sprayberry, Rt. 
3, Heflin, Mrs. Eva Mae Smith, Anniston; 40 grandchildren and 25 great 
grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Mt. Moriah, near Delta, Saturday at 
1 p. m. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery with Wilson Funeral Home in charge.
