The Montgomery Advertiser
Mr. Archibald Patterson, residing in Clay County the line of Talladega, was 
killed by William Brown, his nephew. on Monday l5th Inst. The dispute arose over 
a division of crops when Brown becoming enraged, drew his knife. Patterson 
remonstrated with him for drawing the knife, which only enraged Brown the more, 
and he rushed at Patterson driving the knife into his uncle's breast cutting him 
across the abdomen, and as Patterson turned to get out of his reach, delivering 
a blow at his back which penetrated one of Patterson's kidneys. Patterson 
lingered for about twelve hours after receiving the injuries. Brown was arrested 
and is now in jail at Ashland. Mr. Patterson was about 45 years of age and 
leaves a family. He had raised Brown and had always had the kindest feelings for 
the young man.
