Lineville Headlight
On Aug. 23 the friends and relatives of little Merrell were saddened when the 
news spread of the tragedy, which caused his death. While visiting a playmate 
and enjoying life, fatal shot was fired, which closed his young bright eyes, and 
silenced his sweet voice forever. God who always knows and does best, saw fit to 
call little Merrell home, placing another bright jewel in heaven. Little Merrell 
Perry was born in July 1920 and departed this life, August 23, 1928. He was only 
8 yrs old, but he was a very intelligent child, he had completed the third 
grads, with good marks in every way Merrell is sadly missed by his classmates 
and teachers. I being his former teacher know him to be an exceptional child. He 
always did his very best to please his parents and teachers....He was laid to 
rest in Providence Cemetery......Viola Harrington
