L. Pettus Sr., 72, passed away in Clay County Hospital on September 4th after an extended period oi declining health. Reverends D. Hurst, Cecil Harrington and Cecil Little officiated at the final rites, which were held at Concord Church on Sept. 6th with Blair in charge of arrangements. Interment was in nearby cemetery. Pallbearers were Samp Spray-berry, F. M. Patterson, Otto Headrick, Pete Lett. Mack Sprayberry, Charlie Lett. The deceased had been a faithful correspondent from the Highland Community for this paper for the past several years and was an outstanding person in her community and church and had resided in Clay County all of her life. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. S. R. Phillips, Talladega, Mrs. T. E. Tinney. Bham. Three sisters, Mrs. W. C. Dempsey, Ashland; Mrs. C. L. Pinkston, Montgomery; Mrs. John C. Mitchell, Verbena. One brother, W. B. Gray, Tyler, Texas. Several grandchildren.
