This mother quietly passed away in her fifty-eighth year, September 8, 1919. Mrs. Phillips was loved and respected by the entire church and community. She was well connected by birth and marriage, being related to the "Gallant Pelham" Alabama beloved soldier boy, and the daughter of Mr. Sam McGehee and his wife, Mary McGehee, both of blessed memory, and the widow of the lamented Thaxton Phillips. Her father one of Alabama's pioneer settlers. She is survived by five children, William and John Clay Phillips, of Atlanta, Ga., Amanda Mae and Charlotte Phillips of Chandler Springs, and Miss Otie Phillips of Brownwood, Texas, and a host of friends and relatives. The funeral services were held from the church and conducted by her pastor, Rev. L. Atkins, of Millerville. and remains were laid to rest the side of her beloved husband in the cemetery adjoining the churchyard. The pallbearers being ex-soldiers in full uniform were Messrs. Will Summers, George Chandler, Namon Hawkins, Whitson Brooks, Claude Quarles, Homer Thompson, and Tom Rozelle. Mrs. Phillips was married in Atlanta, in 1881, and joined the Church at Marvin's Chapel in 1897. She was a faithful wife, a devoted mother, a good neighbor, a loyal friend, an exemplary Christian. Her loved ones grieve that they shall see her dear face no more in this world, but they sorrow not as those who have no hope. We all do well to remember that He who is the "Resurrection and has said: "Because I shall live ye shall live also."
