H. Dunson. Death came to her rather suddenly and is thought to have been due to a heart attack. Mrs. Powell was 78 years of age at her last birthday, March 4th. She was born in Carroll County but moved to Alabama at the age of ten years. She was the widow of James M. Powell who died about 43 years ago. She was the mother of eight children, six of whom survive her four sons and two daughters: J.C. Powell, of Fort Payne; F. F. Powell, of Franklin, Ga. J.N. Powell and Mrs. William Duke, of LaGrange, Ga. A.M. Powell and Mrs. J. H. Dunson, of Ashland. Mrs. maiden name was Sparks and she belonged to one of Clay county's prominent families. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at Shiloh Baptist church, of which she had long been a loyal member and her remains were laid to rest in the Shiloh cemetery. A large congregation of sorrowing relatives and friends attended the funeral.
