Clay County Advance
We the undersigned Committee appointed to write obituary and draft resolutions 
in memory of our late lamented Bro. Gilliam H. Preston who was born in Butts 
County Oa. March 20th, 1827, and departed this life August 11 A. D. 1894 at his 
home in Randolph Co Ala, very suddenly and unexpectedly meeting death promptly 
and heroically as he met and dealt with the business of life. Was married to 
Miss Elizabeth Smith, July 12th, 1849, whom he spent a happy life and reared 
eight noble Sons of whom the world as well as the church and country may be 
proud joined the Baptist church in 1860, lived to adorn his profession, was 
licensed to preach the gospel by Ramah church 1893 since which time he has been 
devoutly zealous making full proof of his Ministery. In the language of 
inspiration "Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord from henceforth yea saith 
the spirit that they may rest from labor and their works do follow them"...
