Rice, passed to his final reward last Wednesday p.m. June 17. He was 65 years old and was loved by all who knew him. Mr. Rice was an active and devoted member of the Baptist church here at Cragford. He leaves a wife, 13 children, 35 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friend to mourn. At 3 p. m. Thursday evening funeral, services, were held in the Cragford Baptist church in the presence of a large congregation, conducted by Revs. Holloway and Wilder. Interment in the nearby cemetery. Additional Comments: Roanoke Leader May 31, 1945: The children of the late G. W. Rice met at the grave at Cragford cemetery Sunday. Ten of the children were there: Luke and Luther, of Anniston and Oxford, Matthew, of Wedowee, Mrs. Cletis McWhorter, of Bremen, Mrs. Floyd Rowell, of Heflin, Mrs. Lula Walker, of Columbus, Mrs. Hobson Mason, of LaGrange, Yancey of Bremen, and Mrs. Ocie Waldrep, of Wedowee.
