M. Scarbrough, mother of Mrs. J.J. Walls, died in Brimingham Friday, after a brief illness and her body was taken to her old home near Mellow Valley Saturday where the funeral and interment place. The announcement of her death caused great sorrow her friends throughout his who grieved over her passing away. Ashland Progress: Mrs. D. M. Scarbrough, a former resident of Ashland who was known and loved, by many readers of The Progress, died at her home in Birmingham last Friday, after an illness of about a week. Her remains were brought back to Clay County for burial and after an impressive funeral service at the Ashland Baptist church, were carried to County Line cemetery and aid to rest in the presence of a large company of relatives and friends, that being her childhood home. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. F. J. Fleming. Mrs. Scarbrough is survived by her husband, also two and two daughters, viz: Dr. B. C. Scarbrough, of Albertville, Burford Scarbrough of Birmingham, Mrs. J.J. Walls of Alexander City and Miss Clara Nell Scarbrough of Birmingham. Two of her sisters, Mrs. Zema Leith and Mrs. Daisy Fargason had gone over to Birmingham prior to her death and they with another sister, Mrs. J. T. Liles and a brother, J. B. Miller, were in the funeral party. Other numbers of the party were Mrs. B.C. Scarbrough, Mrs. J. B. Miller and her daughter, Zelma. The Progress is requested to express on behalf of Mr. Scarbrough and children their deep appreciation of kindness shown by the people of Ashland and the Mellow Valley community in connection with the funeral and burial.
