Ashland Progress
Funeral rites for Mrs. Grace S. Shirey of Talladega Rt. were held at Bowden Grove 
Church at 2 o'clock pm on Sept 5th conducted by Rev. Elmon Mattox. Interment was 
in Popular Springs (Fairview) Cemetery with Blair Funeral Directors in charge. 
Pallbearers were W.P. Hendon, Howard Nichols, Sherrill Hendon, Theodore Green, 
Lewell Shirey, Jen Browning, James Hendon and Frank Hendon. Mrs. Shirey died at 
her home on Sept. 4th, after a lengthy illness at the age of 53. Survivors 
include her husband, James S. Shirey; three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Smith, Alex 
City; Mrs. Kathaleen Burkhalter, Ashland Rt. 3: Miss Deborah Shirey. Four sons, 
T. M., G. H., Sherell Shirey, Alex City; James Earl Shirey, Talladega Rt. 3. Two 
sisters, four brothers, ten grandchildren and a number of other relatives.
