Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Short, nee Burney, died at her home five miles north of Lineville Friday night April 23, 1909. Had she lived to the 26th of August next she would have been 65 years old. In her 15th year she was happily married to John H. Short. November 13th next would have been the 50th anniversary of their union. She professed religion and united with the M. E. Church, South, in her eleventh year. The esteem in which she was held by those who knew her was attested by a large congregation coming through a cold continous rain to attend the funeral service. Rev. H. T. McKay paid a touching tribute to the memory of the deceased when he said, "She was a Christian. We have been neighbors for forty years and there was never an unkind word between us, and I never heard her speak evil of any one." A good woman has gone to make one more in the happy band of those who sing the Savior's praise. Additional Comments: Elizabeth Burney Short is buried at Oak Grove Methodist Church, along with many of her descendants.
