After failing to return to his home from a store, where he had gone, a search was started, and Simpson was found in a wooded section. He had been shot under the heart. He was carried to Roanoke hospital where he died. An investigation is underway by county officials. The Birmingham News Jan 20, 1952 George Otis Simpson, 49, tenant farmer of the Sykesville community, has been released from jail here after being held about two weeks on a murder charge in the death of his son, James Simpson, 19. James was found Friday night. Dec. 14, fatally wounded from a 38-caliber pistol bullet, in a wooded area about three miles from his home. He died the next night in a Roanoke hospital. His father was arrested on a murder warrant about two weeks later and placed in County Jail. He was released Friday after a preliminary hearing.
