Bond was refused to the suspect, who was identified by police as Joe Morris 
Garrett, 27 of 1840 Hollywood Rd. following his plea of not guilty before a 
Municipal Court judge Police accused Garrett of slaying with a knife a man 
identified Cleve Sims. Jr. 27, of the same address.
Both men were from the same town in Alabama and had migrated to Atlanta just 
recently for a job on a sewer cons ruction outfit. Garrett reportedly wielded a 
switchblade knife that sever; an artery in Sim's groin, a wound that apparently 
led to the Sim's death. Before dying, however, Sims also reached out and 
inflicted rib wounds to Garretts side said. Witnesses to the incident quoted by 
police as say the arrested man ask a woman witness to an empty glass back to the 
kitchen. Sims apparent interrupted and told Garrett that "You should take it 
back yourself".
Garrett apparently became insulted, police said, and he jumped io his feet and 
told Sims that he was "Too smart anyway." and then afflicted hie fatal stab 
wounds. The incident occurred at approximant 1:45 pm Saturday in the living room 
of Perry Boulevard address here both men were apparently visiting....
