Often he had observed that one should be prepared for death, so he had bought and paid for a vault with the understanding that it would be delivered when it was needed. His tombstone already was in place with the inscription complete, except for the final date. The Rev. C.B. Wellborn officiated at the services. He had been asked to do so several years ago.
