Anniston Star
G.M. (Babe) Smith age 77 prominent farmer and landowner of Delta was instantly 
killed at 6 o'clock last night when the auto he was driving was in head-on 
collision with a pick-up truck driven by R. Brown of Wedowee. The collision 
occurred in the center of the town of Delta. Mr. Brown who was driving a State 
Highway Department vehicle, suffered lacerations and bruises, which were treated 
at the scene of the accident. Mr. Smith was killed as a result of being thrown 
against the steering wheel and through the windshield of his machine by the 
force of the collision. Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held tomorrow at 
the Bethel Church near Delta with the Rev. Frank Ingram officiating. Surviving 
are three nephews, J. J. Smith, Delta, B. D. Smith, Lorraine, Texas, and C. G. 
Smith, Abilene, Tex., and three, nieces, Miss Bell Smith, Miss Bulander Smith 
and Mrs. I. F. Thrash, Delta.
