Smith, died at her home one mile south of town, Tuesday morning, Dec. 29, 1908, at five o'clock and her remains were interred in the Lineville cemetery Tuesday afternoon, Rev Vann, assisted by Rev A Speer and Dr Evans, conducting the funeral services. The deceased was born in Upson County, Oct. 5, 1834, her maiden name being Martha Ballard. She united with the church South in early life and has ever lived the life of a consistent Christian. She was married to William Smith Dec. 7, 1857. She removed with her husband to this community in 1874 where they have since resided. The deceased was the mother of ten children, eight of whom, with her husband, fifty- two grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren survive her. She had been sick of pneumonia for about a week prior to her death The large concourse of relatives and friends who attended the funeral services attested in a measure the esteem in which Mrs. Smith was held in this community. She was a faithful wife, a loving and devoted mother, and a true consistent Christian.
