M. Sparks, one of the old and highly esteemed citizens of Clay County died at the home of his son, J. W. Sparks, in the Macedonia community, Saturday after several days illness. Mr. Sparks was nearing 87 years of age and had been a resident of this county practically all his life, he having moved here from Georgia while a mere lad. His was a long, useful and active life his demise removes another familiar figure from the thinning line of Confederate Veterans, residents of Clay County, which now numbers less than a dozen. Funeral services were held at Shiloh in his old home community, Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, conducted by Elder W. B. Denney, pastor of Providence Primitive Baptist church of which the deceased had long been a loyal and faithful member. The interment was in Shiloh cemetery, Blair in charge. Mr. Sparks is survived by five sons and three daughters, viz. J.D. W. E. E. U. and T. G. Sparks, and Mrs. W. R. Wallace, Mrs. E. M. Carwile and Mrs. A.L. Joiner.
