Speer Dies in Birmingham Mr. Sam J. Speer died at a Birmingham Infirmary Tuesday morning at 6:30 o'clock following a stroke of paralysis which he received a week ago. He was the son of the late Rev. R. A. Speer, who died in Lineville some 3 or 4 years ago. His mother, who survives him, was at his bedside when he died. He is also survived by a widow, three sisters, Mesdames J. W. Jones, of this city, C. C. Roberts, of Leeds, and O. H. Chambers, of Virginia, and by two brothers, Dr. Boston Speer and Blake Speer. Mr. Speer was reared in Lineville and was 39 years of age. He was one of the best known hotel men in the South. At the time of his death he was manager of the Hillman hotel. He always had a smile and handshake for everyone. He was universally liked. The funeral services were held Thursday and his remains were laid to rest in the Lineville cemetery. Additional Comments: The transcriber has no further knowledge of Mr. Speer.
