Clay County Advanced
The subject of this tribute or respects, Mrs. Etta Steed, nee Blake was born 
19th of Dec. 1869. was converted and joined the M. E. Church, south when a mere 
child. Married to Mr. Jas. B. Steed the 9th of March 1892, and died in the Lord 
Sept 21st, 1893, at 8 o'clock a.m. The writer conducted her funeral service in 
the Methodist Church at Lineville in the presence of one of the largest 
congregations of sympathizing, sorrowing friends that has ever worshiped in that 
church ever particle of sitting room in the spacious building was crowded, and a 
large number of young men and boys, beside quite a number of colored people 
stood throughout the service. This beautiful, well rounded, polished, 
consecrated Christian life; ended in a glorious triumph of conquering faith, 
seldom equaled, and perhaps, never surpassed...................... Her pastor.

Additional Comments:
She was the daughter of John Blake and Marietta Heflin. She is buried in the Old 
Lineville City Cemetery Clay County.
