The killing occurred at what is known as the old Green Steed place north of Lineville. Saturday afternoon. The report is that the two negroes fell out over a dog, one of them claiming that the other stole or attempted to steal his dog. So far as has been learned there were no eyewitnesses to the difficulty. Lineville Headlight Dec 10, 1932: Lumus Barker is said to have slain Ad Steed about two miles north of Lineville, near the home of Barker. It is reported that they had trouble concerning a dog, which formerly belonged to Barker and sold by Steed. The shooting accrued Saturday afternoon when the negroes met near the Barker home. The weapon used was a single barrel shotgun, the charge taking effect in the leg above the knee, severity a blood vessel. There were no eyewitness's and the wounded negro bled to dead before aid could reach him. Barker immediately left the scene but is reported to have gone to Sheriff's office Monday morning and gave himself up to authorities.
