Ashland Progress
A killing occurred in what is known as the Gibsonville community some eight or 
nine miles south of Ashland Saturday night in which Dave Stewart, brother of 
Sheriff J. W. Stewart was the victim. Wilburn Stewart, a cousin of the slain 
man, is charged with the shooting which is said to have been done with a pistol, 
the ball piercing the victim's body through and through. But little appears to 
be known as to the circumstances leading up to the tragedy, but the two men had 
come to Ashland together, apparently on the best of terms it is said, they also 
went back together, but in the meantime some disagreement or trouble arose, and 
the shooting occurred near the home of R. L. Stewart, father of Wilburn. A 
coroner's inquest was held which it is understood found verdict of unlawful 
homicide. From reports it seems probable that drink played its usual important 
part in connection with the Wilburn Stewart was taken into custody by the 
officers Sunday morning and placed in jail in Talladega.
