Ashland Progress
Funeral services for Martin S. Stockdale were held Monday altar soon at Sardis 
church. Rev. J. A. Joiner conducted the service. Interment was in the adjoining 
cemetery with White Funeral Home directing. Mr. Stockdale, 76 years old, died 
April 22, after an illness of ten days. Ha was a farmer of this county, having 
lived at the home on Talladega, Rt 4, for the past two years. He is survived by 
the wife, two daughters, Mrs. Celia Wesley and Myrtle Atkins; three sons, M. H 
Stockdale, H. W. Stockdale and M. O. Stockdale; five sisters; sixteen 
grandchildren and many other relatives. One child proceeded him in death. 
Pallbearers were Wilson Baird, O C. Baird, J. B. Smith, Homer Smith Jr., Fransis 
Stevens and Ester Smith. Flower bearers were Evelyn Wesley, Frances Atkins, 
Betty Atkins, Elizabeth Atkins, Louise Stockdale, Ruth Stockdale, Anna Beth 
Smith, Mynette Baird, Nona Faye Baird, Katherine, Christine and Louise Donahue.
