He was born in Halifax County, Va., on the 22nd. day of April 1824, and his father moved to Alabama when young Street was about 13 years of age. After his majority he educated himself and began a business which he continued to be day of his death, accumulating a large fortune. He was married to Miss Martha Dunn. His wife and two sons, Jabez and Robert, Survive him. Mr. Street was a citizen of exalted type, ever living peaceably with all men, and keeping the law of his country with scrupulous exactness. He was correct on all the great moral questions of the day, and though not a member of any church, claimed a hope in Christ, and doctrinally was a Baptist. His death will prove a great affliction to his county, and his departure will be mourned by many friends in Alabama and various other sections of the Union. Jno. P. Shaffer.
