Alexander City Outlook
Automobile accidents have claimed the lives of two Alexander City men. Dead are 
John William Strickland and Jimmy Lawrence Tarver. Strickland was killed early 
Friday morning when the pick-up truck which he was driving overturned in 
Ourtown. It is believed that the truck struck a culvert causing it to overturn. 
Strickland was thrown from the vehicle and died a short time later.
He was 57.... Funeral services were held for Strickland Friday afternoon at the 
Bethel Baptist Church in Clay County with the Rev. Grady Birchfield officiating. 
Interment was in the adjoining cemetery with Radney Funeral Home in charge of 
the arrangements. He is survived by the widow Mrs. Jessie Strickland, Rt. 2, 
Alexander City; a daughter, Mrs. Willene Ward, Wetumpka; two sons, John Robert 
Strickland and Woodrow Strickland, both of Alexander City Rt. six sisters, Mrs. 
John D. Speake, Alexander City, Mrs. Hunter Jawers Jackson's Gap, Mrs. Wilecher, 
Mrs. Richard Gayes, Mrs. Eva Alexander City and Mrs. Eunice Rowel, all of 
Alexander City and two brothers, Arthur Strickland, Alexander City and Buster 
Strickland, Jackson's.
