The accident occurred about 11:30 on the Double Head farm-to-market road near the Roanoke cattle barn. The Highway Patrol and Roanoke police officers investigated the accident. They report that Tatum's car, headed away from town, was stopped in its traffic lane, with its lights burning on bright, and that Tatum was standing in the road near his open car door when hit by an automobile headed toward town. The impact of the crash threw the victim against and over a taxi which had pulled up behind the Tatum car to see what the trouble was. Tatum's death was instant, and the taxi was damaged. Officers expressed the opinion that the accident was unavoidable insofar as the driver of the oncoming vehicle was concerned. Funeral services for Len Tatum will be conducted at two o'clock this Thursday afternoon from the Youngs Chapel Church in Clay County, with Thompsons & Sons Funeral Home directing.
