Ashland Progress
Mrs. Lavonia Upchurch died suddenly at her home in Goodwater Sunday night at the 
age of 72 years. Surviving Mrs. Upchurch are the husband, Wilburn Upchurch, two 
daughters, Mrs. Leonard Nix and Mrs. Wesley Horn of Ashland; six grandchildren, 
Mrs. Fred Willis. Mis. Dawson Leverett. Joe Lamb, Walter Janice and Paul Horn; 
two brothers, Ira Nail and Belious Nail; and two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Gravette and 
Mrs. Dollie Thomas. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at Liberty church. 
Rev. U. L. Higgins of Alexander City, Judge W. B. Nolen, Rev. Menton and Rev. 
Floyd Burgess officiated, Blair directing. Pallbearers were Fred Willis, Dawson 
Leverett, Jimmy Nix, Staton Woodfin Gravette and Wesley Horn.
