Ashland Progress
Henry Pierce Waits, 69, died Saturday Oct. 6, at the home of his son, Herbert 
Waits, Ashland Rt. 2. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon from the 
Shiloh Baptist Church by Rev. B.W. Mathews and Rev, W. L. Barber. Interment was 
in the adjoining cemetery. Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased. They were: 
Charles Waites, Bobby Jones, Leonard McGraw, Graham Smith, Fred Grice, and Edward 
Baird. Mr. Waites is survived by his widow, Mrs. Roxie Waits, one son Herbert 
Waits, Ashland, and one daughter, Mrs. Bill Jones Lineville. Other survivors 
include two brothers Owen K. Waits, Lafayette, and Rev. Akin Waits, Gadsden, and 
a number of grandchildren.
